Competitive Institutional Grants
Competitive Institutional Grants are awarded to eligible applicants consisting of 1) individual Maryland higher education institutions with nursing degree programs, 2) consortia of Maryland institutions of higher education with nursing degree programs and Maryland hospitals, or 3) partnerships of Maryland higher education institutions with nursing degree programs through a competitive Request for Applications process. The size of each Competitive Institutional Grant award will depend upon the grant project’s ability to impact the nursing shortage in a timely manner, the depth and breadth of the initiative, and the feasibility of the budget.
The Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) contracted with the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to administer the Nurse Support Program II. As the coordinating board for all Maryland institutions of higher education, MHEC contributes its extensive experience and expertise with the (1) development of applications and guidelines, (2) management of the review process and selection of applicants, (3) ongoing monitoring and evaluation of NSP II funded programs and (4) the receipt and distribution of NSP II funds submitted by Maryland hospitals in accordance with the HSCRC’s schedule of payments.
With this FY 2018 Request for Applications, NSP II requests that applicants consider innovative opportunities to integrate proven statewide programs and develop strategic partnerships. The time line for proposals is shorter and the final outcomes will need to be measured in qualified nursing professionals and well-credentialed nursing educators. An emphasis will be placed on how the proposal supports national and state initiatives, as outlined in The Future of Nursing Report (2010) and Health Care 2020 (2011), two important blueprints for action.
